FUNDRAISING EVENT TO AID FOOTBALL ACADEMY IN AFRICA

Llangennech AFC are delighted to announce its involvement with a community-based summer fundraising event to aid a Football Academy in The Gambia, west Africa.
The Jambarr Football Academy Foundation (Sanchaba) was established following its founder, Craig Goodman’s first visit to The Gambia in 2013, where he met many children playing football on the beach with no boots, bibs or equipment. On his return to Llanelli, Craig started collecting used football boots, equipment & kit, & through fundraising (to cover extensive shipping costs) was able to send them over to The Gambia. Seeing the impact this had on young people's lives, Craig has since developed an academy in the area with over 200 children & 4 coaches.
However, due to a lack of infrastructure, qualified coaches & player pathways into “professional clubs”, in addition to an ongoing need for equipment for the academy and its programme, the Foundation has struggled to meet the demands for the number of players wanting to participate.
The Jambarr Football Academy Foundation's long-term vision is to purchase a plot of land & build a pitch with facilities where children from across The Gambia could participate & enjoy football in a safe environment, with the correct facilities, clothing & create a direct pathway for talented players into a GFF League Club.
Craig is a member of our club’s WHA Walking Football team & we will support the Jambarr Academy by promoting a live music event to raise funds for an autumn trip where FAW staff will go to the Academy to launch the Pêl-Droed i Sanchaba Project. The project will aim to provide more opportunities to play football there, with a clear pathway of progression for talented individuals, while providing much-needed kit and equipment for the young people.
